(Macau).- SJM Holdings is to combine land and resources with the company’s director Angela Leong On Kei, to build a Cotai casino resort more than three times the size it originally planned. Ambrose So Shu Fai, SJM’s CEO, announced the news speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a public occasion.

Ms Leong already has a land concession gazetted by the government for a 180,000-square metre plot near Macau Dome on Cotai. The plot is held by a firm called Macau Theme Park and Resort.

In 2010, Leong said she planned a family-focused non-gaming resort. SJM’s land concession for Cotai is only 70,500 square meters, the smallest among other operators’ projects in Cotai. It was announced in October, but it is yet to be gazetted.

So said he expects that to happen very soon, in the first half of this year. He said that SJM is now discussing how they can rent Ms Leong’s land. An official announcement will be made in “due course,” he said.

So said he expected that SJM’s Cotai project could break ground this year and be completed by “between 2016 and 2017”.
