The online gaming industry in Spain continues its moderate expansión since the activity was regulated last June. During those almost seven months of the last quarter, the amount played by the million players registered reached 2,727.8 million euros, which generated gross incomes for 117.4 million euros for operators.
Despite the growing evolution of this important industry, legalized less than a year ago, there are still many controversial aspects, from the taxation system to the implementation of new games such as slots and crossed bets, considering that it is a new activity that is trying to establish under the attentive look of central and autonomous administrations.
So one of the aspects to be treated will be the convergence between traditional and remote gaming, with a special chapter on the incidence of the mega project Eurovegas in Alcorcón (Madrid) together with multinational firm Las Vegas Sands.
A recent study on online market in Spain, ellaborated by the Spanish regulatory authority, Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ), announces a “moderate expansion” for 2013 with increments of more than 400 million euros a month in the amounts played, gross income (GGR) of 20,5 million euros a month and more than 72,000 players every month, which in May 2013 could raise to 1,400,000 the number of online players suscribed.
Due to the relevance of those official numbers, which would demonstrate that online gaming has come to stay, there are many interests that affect the operators, technological providers, online business models and commercialization, customer loyalty, marketing and advertising, as well as security and methods of payment.
