Online gaming gained more than 4 billion euros in Spain in 2012

(Spain).- The data from the two latest quarters of 2012, released by the Secretary of State for Finance, Miguel Ferre, states that online gaming gained in Spain more than us$ 4 billion euros. It is estimated that the global amount of the business that took up this sector was around us$ 4 and us$ 5 billion euros.

On the fourth quarter of the year, 1,3 million were gambled, a 24% more than on the third quarter. The information points that the total amount of the business in 2012 was between us$ 4 and us$ 5 billion euros. The EC forecast that, for 2015, the region will generate 13 billion a year around online gaming.

In Spain, the government indicated that, for March 20, 2013, there were 1,162,000 players registered, compared to the 1,010,000 registrated at the end of last year, said Europa Press.

Ferre pointed that online gaming is “an important economic activity,” which may have a “positive effect” on the Spanish economy although it leads a risk factor that makes it different from other leisure activities.

Public administration have been appealed to collaborate with operators and the civil society to avoid problems such as gambling problems and offer a “complete attention” to the people affected.

The Secretary of Finance was in favor of the “self-regulation of the sector,” in order to boost initiatives that guarantee the protection of those vulnerable groups. So far, the Spanish government has removed 80 operators from the network that were working in the country without a license.
