(Romania).- The Romanian government has announced plans to create the National Gambling Office, an official government body that will be tasked with regulating online gambling in the country.

The agency's duties will include monitoring and enforing online gambling legislation in Romania, which was passed into law two years ago.

The NGO will also be given the remit to examine provisions of the country's online gaming legislation criticised by the European Commission, which included rules only granting online gaming licenses to operators who are directly or indirectly involved (shareholder or partner) in a Romanian land-based gaming operation.
