Macau’s casino industry will not fall behind its rivals
(Macau).- The Secretary for Economy and Finance Francis Tam Pak Yuen is confident that the local gaming industry has created competitive advantages in the leisure and tourism sector to compete against its rivals in region.

(Macau).- The Secretary for Economy and Finance Francis Tam Pak Yuen is confident that the local gaming industry has created competitive advantages in the leisure and tourism sector to compete against its rivals in region.
Speaking recently to reporters on the sidelines of a public event, Tam said that Macau’s casino sector was developing into an international leisure tourism centre and has already built a solid foundation, the Macau Post Daily reports.
He was commenting on the possible impact of the newly opened Solaire mega-casino in Manila, after it was reported that it would be paying higher commissions than local operators to attract local junket operators.
Solaire Resort and Casino opened on Saturday and is the first of four gaming-related projects at Entertainment City, on Manila Bay. Run by Las Vegas-based Global Gaming Asset Management, it has 300 gaming tables and 1,200 slot machines. The resort also has 500 hotel rooms.
