Rebecca Goldsmith, Delaware Lottery’s assistant director, has made it public that PokerStars is among the 14 operators who filled out the required documentation to provide the various gambling services to Delaware. PokerStars has been busy in America of late and has made the purchase of a terrestrial casino in Atlantic City in order to comply with New Jersey`s online gambling laws. The effort to obtain a license to operate in Delaware has put PokerStars in yet another State in America which could open up more possibilities for the big firm which seems to being advancing well on US soil.
Although no licenses have been granted to PokerStars yet, the bad press presented by the American Gambling Association referring to PokerStars as an unsavory business full of corruption can`t help but make officials think twice in New Jersey and now Delaware. Other firms are trying to get their hand in the game in Delaware such as the giant 888 and the growing Canadian firm Amaya Gaming.
Amaya operates the Ongame Network and filed a joint venture application with Bally Technologies. The 888 application is part of another partnership venture with WMS a firm owned by Scientific Games which already has a contract with the State of Delaware to supply the workings of the Delaware State Lottery. Of the other firms looking to obtain a license include SHFL Entertainment, IGT, Stan James PLC, and Continent 8 Technologies. The stain on PokerStars blotter may negate their efforts and the current deal with Scientific Games may make them the favourite.
