The scam was reportedly the biggest in the casinos' 19 year-history. Unnamed sources told the Herald the gambler was ejected from the casino and has since returned to his home country. A services manager was reportedly sacked.
Crown said an investigation was ongoing but did not respond to a request for further information. A 2010 Victorian Law Reform Commission report said
Crown's Dallmeire Electronic CCTV system was "one of the most advanced, complex and comprehensive" in the state. It was monitored by internal staff with real time access provided to the Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation.
A spokeswoman for the gambling watchdog said it was being briefed by Crown but could not immediately confirm if it was conducting its own probe. Crown said it was likely to recover a "significant portion" of the scammed cash.
