Commenting on the announcement, Simon Duffy, Chairman of bwin.party, said:
“We are pleased to welcome Sylvia to the Board. Her wealth of experience from a career spanning the music and entertainment industry as it underwent fundamental change to the digital age will be a welcome addition to the Board as we progress our transition from merger integration to innovation.”
Sylvia Coleman is a lawyer who has worked mainly within a corporate environment in consumer-led businesses focused on monetising media rights and brands, primarily in the digital entertainment arena. Her career began with London law firm, Stephenson Harwood in 1980 and five years later she became a legal adviser to the Gallaher Group. In 1987 Sylvia moved into the Music Industry as it began its transition for the digital age. She spent the next 18 years at Sony Music Entertainment, being responsible for Business Affairs in Europe before joining EMI Music to head the legal and business affairs function for the company’s international operations, a position she held until 2011.
In addition to her professional career, she also served for 15 years as the Chair of Chickenshed Theatre Company, an 'inclusive' theatre company for young people celebrating diversity. Currently on the Board of Reprieve, a human rights organisation promoting the rule of law to secure each person’s right to a fair trial, Sylvia is also a member of Action Aid and the Law Society. Sylvia holds an honours degree in Law from Birmingham University.
Sylvia Coleman added: “I am delighted to be joining bwin.party as it enters such an exciting stage in its evolution. I look forward to working with all of the Board members in seeking to secure a leadership position for bwin.party in a highly dynamic sector that is set to continue to expand, driven by technological advances, an evolving regulatory landscape and the continuous shifts in consumers’ demands and tastes.”
