(US).- The state of Delaware is well aware of the potential profits and business opportunities that can come of the online and mobile gambling industry. Consequently, based on the heavy chatter taking place across the political and gaming blogospheres this week, Delaware may become the first state with a “broad spectrum of online gambling.”

According to a detailed new report from USA Today probing the matter, the Delaware Lottery Office recently issued a request for proposals seeking bids from vendors “to operate the state’s centralized online gambling system.” The Office also introduced a “strict stipulation” noting that the aforementioned gambling system must be live by September 30, 2013.

Although there is palpable progress being made across state governments to adopt new provisions relaxing online and mobile gaming restrictions, at this juncture, Delaware is the only state to have legalized online gambling.

Industry experts agree that Delaware likely will be the first to break into full-service online gambling in the United States. “From an industry standpoint, those RFPs from Delaware are very important. Whoever gets in Delaware has an advantage of getting future contracts,” said I. Nelson Rose, a California law professor and gambling law expert. “Think of all the press that gets, the name recognition.”
