ISO 14001 is an environmental management system established by the ISO for the purpose of reducing a company’s impact on the environment with regard to air and water pollution, waste to landfill, and energy usage.
Scientific Games’ ISO 14001 certification drives performance in areas such as waste recycling. It also focuses attention on reducing energy usage, a requirement that is strongly supported by governments around the world as part of ongoing carbon reduction initiatives. The use of water-based and UV inks in Scientific Games’ lottery game manufacturing facilities helps drive an ongoing reduction in solvent usage. These ink products have a much less detrimental effect on air quality compared to solvent-based inks.
“The official ISO 14001 certification signifies that our Montreal manufacturing facility is operated with respect for the environment. It also reinforces that the environment plays a significant role in Scientific Games’ core values in social responsibility,” said Raymond Goudreault, Senior Vice President, Operations for Scientific Games in Montreal. “After months of work and preparation, Scientific Games congratulates the many employees who provided their expertise in achieving this important certification in environmental sustainability.”
Scientific Games’ Montreal manufacturing facility, along with facilities in Alpharetta, Leeds, Vienna and Budapest, has also maintained its ISO 9001 certification. In addition to the ISO certifications, Scientific Games has other worldwide sustainability-driven certifications. The Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) certification ensures that the printed products used by the Company come from a sustainable, well-managed and ethical source so that deforestation or illegal logging is prevented in natural conservation areas.
Scientific Games has nine state-of-the-art printing presses in five operational facilities on four continents, including North America, South America, Europe and Asia. The company has printed over 400 billion instant games for over 120 lottery customers worldwide since 1974.
