Spain could introduce national homologation of gaming machines

(Spain).- Manufacturers of gaming machines – both AWPs and casino slots – have the prospect of devising one product for Spain in future, rather than 17 versions of the same machine. For the past 30 years the 17 Spanish jurisdictions have had semi-autonomy over machines and could impose minor differences to a national homologation.
A maker of AWPs wishing to enter the Spanish market, therefore, had been forced to have the machine homologated 17 times to access every territory.
When Mariano Rajoy came to power in Spain he declared that the country had a unique market where any company in any industry could market any product anywhere in Spain. He is apparently coming good on that promise as in the second quarter of 2013 a law will be introduced to unite all of the regulations under one umbrella.
The Spanish Secretary of State for Trade, Jaime Garcia-Legaz, has issued a draft of a new law covering “Market Assurance Unit” with a timeline of introduction of spring, 2013. The single licence would mean one process of homologation for the entire country.
