Colombia: Coljuegos to set up online control of slot machines

The online control of the slots will be a task that the Government of Colombia will implement as part of its fight against illegality, the President of Coljuegos, Rodrigo Vélez, affirmed that the measure would be formalised with a resolution in December.

"In Colombia, we want machines with a certification, which comply with the international standard, which guarantee profitability and also assure randomness,” pointed Vélez, who said that they have the aim to exercise a centralised control of the slots by Coljuegos, through daily reports. According to Coljuegos, in the country there are around 70,000 machines in operation.

The officer commented that nowadays all the machines of this type pay a contribution, no matter how much the income is, which, in his opinion, is not fair. "At the moment, as there is no technology and they are not connected online, depending on the department or council of the machine, they pay the same level,” Vélez pointed, who added that they are working in such project.

The president of Coljuegos commented that different billing will be applied according to the technology of the machines, because some of them are rather old.

"Not all the machines will be able to connect at the same time and some of them will never be able to connect at all, because they are very old, but, instead, we will apply a fixed fee, a bit higher, which could challenge (the operator) to connect,” he indicated.

Vélez added that, on top of the measure, an identification of the machines would be held through dual serial in game and chassis, together with a management based in self-liquidation and inspection visits.
