Having joined Ladbrokes in 1991, he became managing director in 1994 and joined the Hilton board in 2000. In addition, he is a senior independent director at Quintain, a non-executive director at Spirit and is a member of the Responsible Gambling Strategy board, which advises government on gambling policy.

The appointment comes as betting brokerage firm Bet Butler celebrates its first anniversary. Since August 2011, the company, licensed by the UK gambling commission, has added rugby union, tennis, golf and cricket to its initial offering of football and horse racing, as well as adding accumulative betting odds.
