(UK).- A new casino could be set to open its doors in Luton after a surge of interest from developers. Luton Borough Council has said that casino operators have been impressed by regeneration and business opportunities in the town and believe there is a realistic prospect of running a successful new local casino.

Back in 2008 just as the economic crisis was beginning to bite, the previous government awarded the council a new small casino licence under a new locally managed procedure.

But rather than immediately beginning the licence procedure, the Council decided to wait to see how the market developed, keeping a close eye on the activities of other local authorities successful in obtaining new licences.

The venture would be one of only eight new small casinos in the country though a preferred site has not yet been confirmed. Applicants will need to submit their designs taking into account Council criteria. For more information please see www.luton.gov.uk/casino.
