Mexico reforms SEGOB structure
The announcement hints at a possible change in the country’s outdated gaming regulations in the days ahead, legal expert Alfred Lazcano Samano said.
“A possible amendment to the gaming regulations would definitely strengthen the legitimacy and transparency of the Mexican gaming market,” he told InterGaming.
“However, if the current administration of President Felipe Calderón achieves the reforms in the following days, it should bear in mind that the establishment of mandatory technological controls are essential to avoid money laundering and illicit operations in casinos, as well as a strict regulatory compliance environment according to international standards in order to assure the legitimacy - and full identity - of each and every one of the companies currently doing business in Mexico, not only domestic licensees and operators, but also manufacturers and suppliers in the industry overall,” concluded Samano.
