The Governor said the results did not convince him that gambling should be pursued, WSB Radio said. Deal commented that the nearly 50/50 split among GOP voters over whether Georgia should have casino gambling to help fund education does nothing to convince him that it's something the state should pursue.
The non-binding question only appeared on the Republican ballot Tuesday. "Even though that was a split vote, it's a long way from two-thirds and the definition of casino being as broad as it was would require a constitutional amendment with two-thirds of the House and Senate and the ratification by the voters in the ballot box," he says. "I think you will not see that happen."
Deal maintains his opposition to a proposed video lottery facility at Jimmy Carter Boulevard and I-85. "The configuration of what I have seen even for the video lottery terminals very much appears to be a casino and I've expressed my opinion that I am not in favor of that," he said.
