Across the state, the mix of riverboat, land-based and race track casinos brought in nearly us$ 6 million more than the us$ 197 million they collected in June 2011 and us$ 1.4 million less than May's total. In June, gamblers lost the most on average at Horseshoe Bossier City, Treasure Chest Casino in Kenner and Hollywood Casino Baton Rouge.
The state's only land-based casino, Harrah's in downtown New Orleans, won us$ 28 million, a slight drop from the same month a year ago but up from the us$ 27.4 million taken in June 2011. Meanwhile, gamblers lost us$ 139.9 million at the state's 12 riverboat casinos last month, a 2 percent boost from June 2011. By comparison, the riverboats took in a combined us$ 141.5 million in May.
Louisiana's four race tracks took in a combined $34.7 million, nearly the same as the previous month but a 7 percent bump up from the same month a year earlier.
Among Louisiana casino markets:
- In Shreveport-Bossier City, the area's five riverboats won us$ 52.6 million, while the Louisiana Downs track casino took in us$ 6.3 million.
- The Lake Charles market's two riverboat casinos brought in us$ 45 million, while the area's Delta Downs track casino won us$ 16.2 million.
- In the New Orleans area, gamblers lost us$ 20.7 million at the riverboat casinos and us$ 3.8 million at the Fair Grounds race track casino.
- Baton Rouge's two riverboats won us$ 16.8 million.
The figures do not include Indian reservation casinos, which are not required to publicly report winnings.
