(Dominican Republic).- The Dominican Republic National Lottery has announced plans to upgrade its technology platform in order to begin selling products over the Internet including via tablet computers and mobile phones.

Jose Francisco Pena Tavarez, Director for the National Lottery, revealed that the National Lottery will transform its website in order to allow users to purchase cards easily using a debit or credit card.

Pena Tavarez stated that traditional land-based lottery outlets are expensive to maintain because they must additionally also carry other goods while Internet operations can be run at a lower cost and give players the comfort and convenience of having a go from their own home or office.

He declared that the National Lottery will look to follow the example of Spain, which has sold over 60 million euros in cards less than six years after launching, with all transformational duties set to be handled by the nation’s Internal Taxes Agency.
