(Chile).- The online gaming regulation is moving forward in South America, more specifically in Chile. Senators Antonio Horvath and Ricardo Lagos Weber presented an initiative in which they propose the regulation of online casino games with the aim to expand the offer and adapt it to the technological improvements.

“This growing modality of online games of chance offer generates the need of establishing clear regulatory elements, both for operators and participants in different games, withouth forgetting the necessary protection for underaged, the people that have demanded voluntarily not to participate in games and bets, and all those who, due to reasons of public order, are banned to have access to this service”, says the proposed text.

Anyway, this proposal is not completely new, because in the project that concluded in the Law 19,995 in 2005 on casinos, it considered that casino games could be developed both traditionally and online. At that moment, that part of the project had been rejected, because it had the aim to strengthen casinos and traditional gaming. The circumstances have changed.

Both senators declare that the traditional gaming industry is fully consolidated and is working well, while the online industry has a very wide offer but does not have the necessary regulation. This new initiative proposes the modification of laws that are already into force, such as number 19,995, so it will not be a simple process.
