(Italy).- Despite closing its office in Bologna when a 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck the region last week, Eurocoin Italia staff returned to business the next day. The tremor, which centred on the town of Mirandola at around 9am on May 29, was the second to hit the country in just nine days.

The quake resulted in a number of fatalities and casualties, while thousands were also left homeless after buildings were destroyed. Eurocoin Italia’s Maria Rosaria Parisi explained that her company’s offices are located just 40km from what was the epicentre of the second tremor.

“We did indeed feel the tremors here in Bologna, but no real damage has occurred here at our premises so it didn’t directly affect the business in anyway – just emotionally on the day the tremors were felt because they occurred during work hours,” she told InterGame. “It was tough to be focused as everyone around was quite shaken up and undecided on whether to go back to work or home to loved ones.”

Many office buildings, schools and local shops in Bologna and its vicinity did close for security purposes, she added. “Eurocoin Italia did end up closing the office for the remainder of the day but did open for business the next day.”
