The city and Penn National Gaming cut the ribbon this morning on Ohio's second casino. Native son Jamie Farr of the hit television series "M*A*S*H" first emceed a 10:30 a.m. VIP reception for several hundred people before the doors to the Hollywood Casino opened to the public.
City and casino officials predicted the casino site would help revitalize Northwest Ohio. Mayor Michael Bell called the casino a "linchpin" in development that would also include new condominiums and other construction in downtown Toledo, 20 minutes away.
The Hollywood is the second of four casinos that will open in Ohio by next year. It features 2,002 slot and video poker machines, 60 gaming tables and 20 poker tables. It follows the Horseshoe Casino Cleveland as the first two of four Ohio casinos expected to open this year.
