(Spain).- Turning Tenerife into a space for fun and ending with unemployment are the two ideas that move a group of businessmen of the South to promote the candidacy of the Island as Eurovegas venue, a project boosted by US tycoon Sheldon Adelson in Spain.

The proposal has been presented at the Tenerife Town Council, which has not shown enthusiasm to support this initiative. The main obstacle to approve this operation challenged by Madrid and Barcelona is that it would force the insular corporation to  gain an urban reclassification of more than 6 million sqm. It would be in this space, equivalent to 600 football fields, where the Tenerife version of Las Vegas would be developed.

Among the promoters of this candidacy is former Ashotel President, José Fernando Cabrera, who assures that Tenerife is the right place to develop Sheldon Adelson project, which can also present the proposal.

At the beginning, the casino magnate thought in three countries when he decided to install a Las Vegas-style city in Europe: Turkey, Croatia and Spain. The Spanish option won, above all, due to its climate, its touristic tradition.and because it is a country surrounded by the sea.

There are precisely these three qualities which hoist Tenerife businessmen in order to consider that this Island, better than any other part of Spain, should bet for reinvention and become a “City of fantasy” in which the game, the cruises, the conventions and the shows could serve to relaunch economy and create innumerable jobs.

Eurovegas size will be equivalent to half of Las Vegas Strip and, at the beginning, it was a project thought for Macau.
