(US).- Pennsylvania gaming officials say slot machine revenue was up slightly last month from the year before, but there were signs of slowdown in the industry's rapid growth. The Gaming Control Board reported that the state's 11 casinos brought in us$ 214.1 million in gross revenue last month, up 1.3 % from the same period the year before.

The latest figures, however, include the first full month of revenue from Valley Forge Casino Resort, which opened March 31. Without that revenue, the other casinos' revenue fell slightly from the year before.

The Pennsylvania casinos are gearing up for a new round of competition from New Jersey. In addition to the Revel opening this year, several properties are making large investments.

In Pennsylvania, Sugarhouse Casino in Philadelphia showed the most growth, up 7.5 percent. Meanwhile, Harrah's Chester Casino and Racetrack in neighboring Chester fell 7.6 percent. Hollywood casino near Harrisburg declined 5.6 percent. Presque Isle Downs and Casino in Erie was down 6.6 percent.
