(Spain).- A wide analysis on the Spanish and European online gaming regulation was the frame in which the General Director of Gaming Regulation, Enrique Alejo, declared at the inaugural conference of the congress Spanish iGaming Summit 2012 (SiGS), held in Madrid last March 27th.

Around 250 professionals of the sector assisted, and Alejo informed that “the Administration would study thoroughly the applications presented by mid December, and the 6-month legal deadline could run out before proceeding to the granting of permissions to operate online games”.

The conference of the state regulator had created a great expectation and the hall in which the event was presented was full to the point that several assistants had to be standing for a long time during the first part of SiGS 2012.

This congress was structured around four main panels. The intervention of the General Director of Gaming Regulation was followed by the round table on the European perspective, moderated by Norman Heckh, director of Deloitte Abogados, in which they analyzed the cases of Italy, UK and Germany.

Later, Fernando Prats, general director of Taxes and Games of the Madrid Council, explained the regional strategy that has already granted two licenses to operate online gaming: Casino Gran Madrid and Codere. Then, lawyer Santiago Asensi moderated the panel on the legal challenges of the sector, with the participation of lawyers Pedro López Martín-Andino, Juan José Sánchez Colilla and Heliodoro Giner.

Councellor Mauro de Fabritiis (MAG) set out his opinions to compete on regulated markets, moderating then the table on how to adapt to the new situation, with interventions of Albin Tiusanen (PAF) and Sascha Badelt (Digidis), to conclude with the conference of Guido Marino (MAG) on the regulated confluence on traditional and online gaming. It then gave way to the conference on the online/offline convergence, in the table moderated by Juan Barrachina (Egasa), which counted with the participation of Sonia Carabantes (Cirsa), Jaime Estalella (Codere) and Juan José López (Orenes).

Finally, after lunch, the exhibitions treated key questions related to online gaming, such as technological development, security and means of payment. José Miguel Esteban (R. Franco) moderated the technological approach with the participation of Ricardo Martínez (Deloitte), Miguel Ángel Abreu (Betware) and Pedro Estremera (Gtech G2).

SiGS concluded with the round table on the importance of the security on the risks that this activity involves, as well as the means of payment. Javier Morenos (PayPal) moderated this table that counted with the presence of María González (Paysafecard) and Guillermo Rodríguez (Deloitte).

Then, Javier Pérez Marco, host of the event sponsored by Deloitte, Betware, Cicor, PayPal, Paysafecard, Codere, Gran Casino Madrid, Asensi, MAG and Globalvox, closed the event, in which the main associations related to the gambling sector collaborated.
