Genting’s NEC casino set to receive green light

The committee discussed the company’s plans to build the 4,645 sqm casino, hotel and leisure complex at a meeting on March 14. The proposals are still subject to reports relating to public transport, traffic management, employment and retail.

Resorts World at the NEC is expected to open by the end of 2013, creating 1,100 new jobs and more than 1,750 construction jobs.

A spokesperson for Genting said: “Genting Casinos now looks forward to the next stage of the planning application process for Resorts World at the NEC and then to begin the process, with the support of the NEC Group, to deliver this exciting leisure and entertainment complex.”

Plans for the site include a 10 screen cinema, a 180-bed hotel and spa, a conference and banqueting centre, designer outlet shops, restaurants and 300 car parking spaces. Genting UK said Resorts World will add around us$ 39.5 million per year to the local economy and pledged to recruit locally.
