International operator Casinos Austria, who granted a license to build Ovalle casino, announced last week that it will present before the Casino Superintendence a letter of resignation to the operating license, which could come to fruition in the following days, because validation by shareholders is still pending.
The Director of Casino Gran Ovalle, Hernán Valdés, said that they had conversations with several interested parties, but none of them had materialized in a presentation before the Casino Superintendence, so the most responsible decision is the one manifested by general manager of the venue, Carolina Cergna.
Casino Superintendent, Francisco Javier Leiva, explained that in due time “the plot of land acquired by the investor was visited, but there was no advance in the development”.
"The investor evaluates the market and decides its location, and is subject to comply the restrictions indicated by the law. For example, projects located in the Metropolitan Region cannot apply, as well as those in regions that already have three casinos. The casino should be located at least at 70 km from another casino. With those conditions, the investor can analyze the country and where will he apply for the project", he indicated.
The Superintendent added that Casinos Austria could not participate in the new process, because the law indicates that "a society whose license had been revoked cannot apply again in a three year deadline".
