(Isle of Man).- The Isle of Man government is considering seven bids to build a "high class" casino resort on the island. Planning consent was given for the project about two years ago and the application deadline was 31 January.

In the House of keys on 28 February it was confirmed the government is now in talks with applicants and tenders will be invited in March.

Minister John Shimmin said his department had to get the best deal possible for the Isle of Man. He added: "The department would only consider awarding the second licence if the proposed new development was significantly different to the existing casino and associated hotel."

Over the past year, businesses from the Isle of Man and further afield have been invited to bid to build a "high-class casino" and spa. It is hoped the move will attract more tourists and help increase the island's profile in the gaming industry.
