PokerStars launches PokerStars.eu under new Malta license

The site will open to certain other European markets in the near future. Players on www.pokerstars.eu will enjoy the same industry-leading software as www.pokerstars.com and will continue to have access to the same games and tournaments while competing against the same global players.

Offering our online poker on www.pokerstars.eu with a Maltese license provides benefits to players in Sweden and Finland in particular and we are always striving to offer the best product possible to our players, wherever they are located,” said Guy Templer, PokerStars’ Head of Business Development.

Amongst other things the move will address the current uncertainty regarding taxation of player winnings since online gaming winnings of residents in both Sweden and Finland are clearly tax-free when the game is offered from within EU under a license issued by an EU Member State.

PokerStars has established an office in Malta which will manage PokerStars.eu. The majority of PokerStars players will continue to play on www.pokerstars.com, a site that continues to operate under our global license in the Isle of Man.

PokerStars players in Sweden and Finland can easily update their existing PokerStars software and re-register their accounts to www.pokerstars.eu. All balances on existing accounts including cash, FPPs, VPPs and VIP status will be automatically moved over and will be immediately available after the move is completed.

The Malta Lotteries and Gaming Commission granted PokerStars a license following the commission’s rigorous review process. PokerStars was recently among the first to be awarded a license in Denmark, which introduced regulation this year. PokerStars is also licensed by the governments of France, Italy, Belgium, Estonia and the Isle of Man.
