Prevalence of illegal igaming operations remains a key concern to ECA

(Belgium).- “If you are an illegal operator still offering your services and competing with land-based casinos but not paying taxes in the country where you are offering your services, then that’s a problem,” chairman of the European Casino Association, Ron Goudsmit, said.
Illegal online gaming continues to be a major problem for the land-based casino industry, according to the chairman of the European Casino Association, Ron Goudsmit.
The ECA has long fought to protect the interests of land-based casinos in the face of growing competition from several sectors yet, while online gaming undoubtedly presents new opportunities for bricks and mortar gaming companies, the prevalence of illegal igaming operations remains a key concern.
“Of course we accept that there is competition from legal online gaming but, like us, they pay taxes though not always on a level of playing field,” he told InterGaming.
