(Malta).- “Alderney-based gambling companies are being tempted away to Malta because of the Mediterranean island’s lax regulations,” Alderney Gambling Control Commission executive director Andre Wilsenach told a UK parliamentary committee.

The Culture, Media and Sport Committee has been looking into how the 2005 UK Gambling Act has been operating, which includes offshore-registered gambling companies.

Wilsenach defended the northern isle’s regulation of the industry, saying that the commission had clamped down on some companies that wanted to carry out certain unacceptable activities in Alderney.

He said in those cases the company sometimes left for, he believed, Malta, instead of playing by the commission’s rules.
