“From the moment that the decision to create a casino in Cyprus was taken, we are evaluating all possibilities, but we share Hermes Airports’ view that the old Larnaca terminal scenario has several merits”, said Flourentzos.
The minister clarified that a decision was still far from imminent, since a study exploring the government’s options was still underway. Flourentzos said that once decisions were taken and the study was complete, the relevant procedure would push forward.
The decision to create a casino was taken in October 2011 and constituted a stark u-turn on government policy.
The government’s decision was welcomed by most quarters in politics, while Larnaca MPs have demanded that the casino is created in Larnaca, so as to boost the city, which they feel has been consistently overlooked by government policies.
