(US).- According to a source at the Nevada Gaming Control Board, Aristocrat Technologies has applied to participate in a Nevada intrastate Internet poker industry. The firm is now the seventh to seek entry into Nevada’s upcoming web poker market. 888 Holdings, IGT, Bally Technologies, Cantor Gaming, South Point Poker and Shuffle Master have also filed.

Only South Point Casino’s site has applied to be an operator, while the other companies will be on the technology end and have to do business with an existing brick-and-mortar casino.

On December 22, the Nevada Gaming Commission adopted regulations for the industry. A day later, the U.S. Justice Department publicly released a legal opinion that clarified the Wire Act - removing a significant barrier for the offering of Internet poker.

At the historic hearing in Las Vegas, Control Board Chairman Mark Lipparelli said that technology and internal control standards for the industry will likely be ironed out by regulators before any license application is sent to the Commission for approval.
