Nevada casino winnings up 8.1 % in October

(US).- Nevada casinos have won us$ 961 million in October, posting an 8.1 % increase compared with the same time last year. The Nevada Gaming Control Board reported that winnings on the Las Vegas Strip were up 13.3 % in October after bringing in nearly us$ 561 million that month.

Downtown casino gains were up 8.1 percent in October. On the other hand, Reno casinos fared worse this October than last. They were down 12.3 percent after bringing in us$ 45.8 million, while Washoe County casinos overall were 9.3 percent down.  South Lake Tahoe casinos were 4 percent up in October while taking in us$ 15.7 million.

State officials say they collected more than us$ 65 million in taxes based on October casino winnings. That's an 8.6 percent increase compared with last year.
