Macau's gaming receipts rise 57 % in 2010

(Macau).- Macao's casinos generated over us$ 23.83 billion in total receipts in 2010, up about 57 % over the previous year, according to figures released last Friday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

(Macau).- Macao's casinos generated over us$ 23.83 billion in total receipts in 2010, up about 57 % over the previous year, according to figures released last Friday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

Among total receipts of the gaming sector, receipts from gaming and related services reached us$ 23.82 billion, and interest receipts decreased notably by 71 % year-on-year to us$ 6.31 million, said the DSEC.

The figures also indicated that total expenditure amounted to us$ 11.4 billion, with purchase of goods, commission paid and customer rebate rising by 66 % from 2009 to us$ 8.18 billion.

According to the figures, the gaming sector's gross value added that measures the sectoral contribution to the economy soared by 58 % to us$ 14.16 billion. However, gross fixed capital formation shrank significantly by 63 % from 2009 to us$ 138.7 million, following the conclusion of the tourism and gaming facilities in 2009.
