(US).- Legislation winding through the state capitol could pave the way for Florida to become home to the largest casino in the world. If it passes a compact between the state and Seminole Indian Tribe would likely be broken. The tribe is paying the state us$ 250 million this year for exclusive rights to blackjack and other Vegas-style games.
House Sponsor of the casino bill, Representative Eric Fresen, says the deal will be dead even if his bill fails because counties are already violating it.
“I think that compact is probably toast in the next six months anyway if the Gadsden thing happens," Fresen said. "If the Miami thing happens, because all of those can be interpreted very quickly by the Seminole tribe as a violation of the compact because there is somebody new playing slots or there is somebody new gaming.”
In total the tribe has agreed to pay the state a billion dollars through 2015 for exclusive rights to games in its seven casinos. Fresen says the deal isn’t fair and the state can balance its budget without the Seminole money.
