Massachusetts House to launch casino gambling debate

(US).- The Massachusetts House of Representatives is preparing to debate casino gambling this week. The bill would license as many as three resort casinos and one slots parlor, all competitively bid. Under the proposal, the state would take bids starting at us$ 85 million for up to three casino licenses.

The developers must invest at least us$ 500 million in the casinos. Each must include a hotel. Bidding for the slots parlor license would start at us$ 25 million and developers would be required to invest us$ 125 million in the facility, which would have no more than 1,250 slots machines.

The casinos will be spread throughout the state with one in western Massachusetts, one in the Boston area, and another in southeastern Massachusetts.
