(Denmark).- The Danish Gambling Authority has told eGaming Review it still expects the country’s egaming law to come into force by 1 January 2012, despite the EC delaying its decision on whether or not the proposed legislation equates to an illegal form of State Aid until officials have returned from their summer break in early September.

The complaint lodged last December by the Danish slot machine association and one of the country’s six land-based casinos – the Royal Casino in Aarhus – argued that the proposed online gaming tax rate of 20% on gross win compared to the 41% they pay amounts to Member State-sponsored unfair competition and exceeds what is permissable under EU State Aid rules.

The Danish Gambling Authority in January promised an invited gathering of leading operators and the Danish gambling industry that the complaint over tax rates lodged with the EC would be resolved by June of this year and that the market would be open by this autumn.
