Atlantic City casino revenue declines 6.5% in July

(US).- Atlantic City casino gambling revenue fell 6.5 % in July as competition from slots and casinos in nearby states continued to draw customers. Betting proceeds shrank to us$ 340.3 million from a year earlier, New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement informed this week.

According to the information released, slot machine revenue at the 11 casinos declined 3 %  and table game winnings dropped 15 %.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie this year redirected some gaming revenue to improve the city and overhauled regulations to help stem losses in Atlantic City.

Gambling in the second-biggest U.S. casino market after Las Vegas tumbled to us$ 3.57 billion in 2010 from a peak of us$ 5.2 billion in 2006.

Gambling revenue in Atlantic City fell 6.9 % in the first seven months of this year from a year earlier.
