(Russia).- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has signed a bill to amend the Criminal Code and introduce criminal and administrative charges for online casino providers. The changes in the law introduce administrative fines for setting up and operating online casinos outside allowed gambling zones up to 25,000 euros and 6 years in prison.

These changes in law were necessary to fight growing number of internet cafe type of online casino halls on the streets of all major Russian cities.

Since the introduction of the gambling ban in July 2009 the casinos went underground and slot machine halls reorganized into interactive saloons but newly established gambling zones remained undeveloped and virtually dormant.
