(Costa Rica).- The bill to create a casino and games of chance tax moved forward in its first stage in the Commission of Financial Issues of the Congress. The resources would be used to finance security plans offered in the electoral campaign of the current President of the Republic, Laura Chinchilla.

The new project presented by the opposition parties Acción Ciudadana (PAC) and Unidad Social Cristiana (PUSC), aims to create a 15% tax on gross gaming incomes in the country.

The plan is seen with optimism by pro-government Partido Liberación Nacional, said Representative Francisco Chacón, although he announced motions to affirm the text.

The driving force of the proposal, Christian-socialist Luis Fishman, expressed that project should move forward if the government keeps its speech of searching more resources for security programs in the country.
