Genting granted licence for large casino at the NEC

(UK). - Solihull Council's licensing committee granted a large casino licence to Genting Casinos. It is hoped the new complex, situated between the LG Arena and the Crowne Plaza Hotel, could be up and running by 2013

This is the culmination of a long process which began with the Gambling Act 2005, paving the way for a number casinos large and small across the UK.

More than 1,100 jobs are set to be created after plans for a large casino at the Birmingham NEC were given the green light.

The US$ 191 million Resorts World leisure and entertainment complex is being developed in partnership with the NEC Group and the scheme will still be subject to planning consent.

The 55,000 square metre facilities will include a casino, hotel, spa, banqueting and conference centre, multi-screen cinema, retail units, bars and restaurants.

Paul Thandi, NEC Group CEO, said: “This is one of the most exciting developments in the NEC’s history.”
