Nevada Senate advances bill to permit gambling in hotel rooms
(US).- By unanimous vote, the Senate approved this week a bill to permit gambling in the rooms of hotel-casinos, with predictions the state could collect as much as us$ 18 million annually in additional taxes.

The bill would permit gambling anywhere on the property of a resort, but the electronic device used for such gambling wouldn't work if a patron left the property.
Senator Valerie Wiener said she initially worried about whether children could gamble from a hotel room, but noted the electronic technology has seen advances and has safeguards in place.
Lee Amaitis, president and chief operating officer of Cantor Gaming, pushed for the bill and said earlier it could result in as much as us$ 18 million more in revenue to the state each year.
The bill now returns to the Assembly for agreement on licensing of independent agents. It would become effective October 1.
