Unanimously, the Tourism Commission of the Chamber of Deputies approved a bill that improves the Casino Act to allow cruise ships sailing in national waters should not close its gambling casinos, among others.
The initiative comes in response to the decline in cruise ship arrival to Chile, given the adverse conditions it currently present in relation to neighboring countries.
The project seeks to exempt from VAT payment cruises on account of services provided to foreign visitors without domicile or residence in Chile, as applied today in hotel companies. It also seeks to enable tourist ships to recover the VAT on the purchase of goods for the supply, lubricants, fuels, among others, in regions I, XI, XII and XV.
"We believe the initiative will bring concrete and lasting benefits to the tourism industry and economic activity," said Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism, Juan Andrés Fontaine.
