Institutional speakers included Guido Berardis, Director at the European Commission DG Internal Market and Services, MEPs Christel Schaldemose, Mario Mauro and Salvatore Iacolino, Péter Staviczky, representing the Hungarian Presidency of the EU, as well as Jean François Vilotte, President of the French regulatory authority for online gambling (ARJEL) and Antonio Tagliaferri, Director for Gaming at AAMS.
Among the panellists were also experts from academia who presented global and national studies on problem gambling, as well as public and private gaming operators who discussed best practices and tools used for the protection of players.
The seminar also provided a platform for an interactive debate on the recently adopted EU Green Paper on online gambling and an exchange of views about initiatives which can be put in place to create a safe and responsible environment in this rapidly expanding sector.
“Responsible gaming is at the heart of our activities. Operating in a legal, balanced, moderate and responsible environment is our first commitment,” commented Marco Sala, CEO of Lottomatica Group.
“I am delighted that the European Commission Green Paper and the public consultation address these issues of public interest. The Green Paper offers an unprecedented opportunity to analyze, in an objective manner, the challenges posed by remote gaming and to assess whether a Community intervention, along with national rules, can help address them. Lottomatica intends to contribute with its experience in the gaming sector in Italy, and worldwide, to the initiative that Commissioner Barnier announced a year ago and that has finally come to life,” he concluded.
