Iowa online poker legislation shelved for now

(US).- Politicians in the state of Iowa have put on hold proposed legislation that would have permitted online poker after the measure fell victim to a so-called ‘funnel day’, a deadline lawmakers use to narrow their workload.

Instead, legislators have requested a report from the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission which will reveal its findings at an as yet undisclosed date.

Committee Chairman Democrat Senator Jeff Danielson told the Associated Press, “I just think people need a clearer picture of the evidence and I don't think they're ready in this session to legalize it. So we want to give them the best information possible as we go into next year.'

Senate Bill 458 was only narrowly approved by the Senate State Government Committee last month.
