The Director of Lotería Nacional de Beneficencia, José Pablo Ramos, said that the new law to be submitted to the National Assembly includes modernizing the institution. According to Ramos, with this law the institution intends to seek other lotteries such as electronics or scratching type. He also affirmed that “a possible new law does not come to eliminate the traditional lottery.”
The National Lottery currently sells between 500 and 600 million dollars. He said that the new initiative will not affect the operations of the entity, because countries like Puerto Rico have traditional and electronic games, and both have been maintained. Regarind the fear of lottery ticket vendor on the possible privatization of the institution, the director explained it can’t be privatized.”
The concept of the proposed law “is that the only state entity which can exploit this activity is the Lotería Nacional de Beneficencia," he said. Ramos added that the lottery ticket vendor will not be affected by the new law.
