Ecuador to decide next May 7 the future of gaming industry

(Ecuador) .- Ecuador will go to a new referendum proposed by President Rafael Correa on May 7. Among various topics to be discussed,it is included the possible prohibition of gambling and casino operation in the country.

The National Electoral Council (CNE) recently announced the date of the plebiscite, which applies to the Ecuadorian people over 18 years and for foreigners residing in the country for over five years.

The process will take place on Saturday May 7 from 07:00 until 17:00. The campaign for consultation will take 40 days, beginning on March 25 and end on May 5.

The nine million of Ecuadorians must solve 10 questions, five are amendments to the Constitution of the country, and five are questions on general issues.

The referendum, among others, resolve issues as a judicial system reform in the country, authorizing the government to regulate the press, to criminalize the non-affiliation of workers to Instituto Ecuatoriano de Seguridad Social (IESS), penalizing private enrichment not justified, ban killing animals for fun in public performances, to prevent managers and media investors invest in businesses outside their sector, and definitely in Ecuador prohibit gambling and casino operations.
