According to Santarelli, less than 2 % of the Macau’s visitors come from Japan.

“That said we do not believe even a long term disruption of visitations from Japan would have a meaningful impact on gross gaming revenue or operator fundamentals,” Santarelli said.

Meanwhile, the Macau government has advised residents not to travel to Fukushima prefecture, where an explosion occurred Saturday at a nuclear power plant, following the earthquake.

According to information provided by the travel industry, there are two Macau tour groups with around 50 people in Osaka, in Japan, which will continue with their itinerary.

In addition, there are around 40 Macau residents travelling individually in Japan.  The government will continue to maintain contact with them in order to follow up the situation and provide assistance.
