GLI’s gathered more than 260 regulators at its 10th annual North American Roundtable

The two-day event was held at Treasure Island Casino & Resort and featured a select team of gaming industry leaders speaking on a wide range of today’s most relevant topics. GLI presents the event free-of-charge.

The conference began with a video address by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who spoke about his vision for internet gaming. Following was a keynote address by Dina Titus, who served Nevada in the 111th Congress. She spoke to the crowd about the important job gaming regulators do for states, tribes and federal governments.

Next, GLI’s President James Maida and Director of Technical Compliance Patrick Moore spoke about how interactive gaming is continuing to evolve on the operator and supplier fronts. Then, in a discussion lead by FastDash founder Stephanie Maddocks, a panel comprised of IGT’s Steve Kastner; Ted Keenan from Bally Technologies; Steve Martino from the Maryland Lottery and Aristocrat’s Chris Rowe talked about the “fun factor” that adaptive and social networking are bringing to gaming.

The afternoon began with Tom Foley of the Foley Law Group leading a discussion on where policy meets technology in the new digital age, particularly in the era of internet gaming. On the panel were The Honorable Tracie Stevens from the National Indian Gaming Commission; Jamie Hummingbird, from the Cherokee Nation Gaming Commission; and Mark Lipparelli from the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

Day two of the Roundtable began with a video address by Rep. Shelley Berkley (D, NV), whose jurisdiction includes the Las Vegas Strip and Downtown. She spoke about what regulators can expect as internet gaming legislation makes its way through this year’s Congress.

Next, GLI’s Kevin Mullally led panelists Dr. Bo Bernard, UNLV; Steve Martino; Maryland Lottery; and Jeff Wyton, Alberta Gaming & Liquor; in a discussion on the impact of new technologies on responsible gaming.

The morning continued with a session on the increasing importance of security in the digital age led by Norman DesRossiers, San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission; and panelists Sean Mason, GLI; Craig Durbin, Oregon Lottery & Gaming Enforcement; and Scott Scepaniak, Mystic Lake Casino Hotel/Little Six Casino.

In one of the most lively discussions, Salim Adatia from TST, A GLI Company, led a discussion on the present and future state of internet and intranet gaming. Panelists included John Pappas, Poker Players Alliance; May Scheve Reardon, Missouri Lottery; and Mark Clayton of Lionel, Sawyer & Collins.

The Roundtable concluded with an in-depth look at the impact the 2010 election had on gaming at a federal and state level. Tom Foley led panelists Leslie Lohse, California Tribal Business Alliance; Kevin Mullally; and Whitaker Askew from the American Gaming Association.
