The popularity of gaming increased compared to 2009 when US$ 5.51 less was used on gaming per resident per year.

Regional variations in gaming are significant, however. Gaming was most popular in the municipality of Töysä in Southern Ostrobothnia, where as much as US$ 406.75 were used on gaming per resident during the year. Other popular tourist municipalities were also placed high in the list. The residents of large municipalities, on the other hand, were not as keen gamers.

Janne Peräkylä, RAY’s Executive Director of gaming operations, believes that the increased popularity of gaming is explained by the new games introduced during the year as well as the increased cooperation with RAY’s corporate partners and gamer customers.

The novelty game Kulta-Jaska has been given a great reception among gamers. Even a single game can have great significance to the popularity of gaming in general, Peräkylä said.

Peräkylä anticipates continued popularity for slot machines among Finnish gamers.” The basic trend in gaming at the moment is increase and diversification,” he concluded.
